Bandleyside is a rural parish, lying to the west of Appleby. It is made up of the villages Colby, Hoff and Ormside and takes its name from Bandley Beck which links the villages.
The ward of Ormside represents Great and Little Ormside and also Heights

Bandleyside Parish Council is made up of nine councillors, with three representatives for each ward. Bandleyside Parish Council meets approximately every two months and rotates between Ormside and Colby Village Halls. Notice of meetings will be published one week prior to the meetings on the noticeboards and on this website.

A Parish Council is a statutory body and the first tier of local government, making decisions itself, but also representing local people at other levels. The Council has the power to raise money through taxation, called the precept, which forms a part of the Council Tax. Along with any grants and cemetery fees, this makes up the income of the Parish Council. The Parish Council represents views of parishioners to other organisations, and is also consulted on planning applications. The Parish Council holds responsibility for the cemetery and also the upkeep of the village greens and trees.
Parish Councillors are local people who are either elected or co-opted to the Parish Council. They volunteer and give their time freely because they seek to make a positive contribution to their community.
